Details about Volunteering for the Zacatecas GenWeb Project

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the Zacatecas GenWeb Project.  Here are the Q&A’s on volunteering with us.

Q.     How much of a time commitment must I make?

A.     Well to be honest, the most of the time commitment will be upfront when your first starting your municipality page.  You will need to search the internet to find all of the local resources that you can to put on the municipality page and if you live in the area, you should also include on your site the address, phone numbers and business hours of any local genealogy resources you find.  However, after you first get that information on your site, you are only required to update your page every six months.

Q.     Do I have to know coding, HTML or CSS3 knowledge?

A.     It would be helpful if you have coding, HTML or CSS3 knowledge, however, if you  know how to set up websites using sites such as WordPress, Blogger, Wix, etc; that would be helpful too.  Your State Coordinator does not know any CSS3, she knows some HTML but she has two blogs on WordPress and has been using WordPress for the past 6 years.

Q     Do I have to live in the municipality that I am volunteering for?

A.     No, it would be helpful, but not required.

Q     Do I have to read, write or understand Spanish to volunteer?

A.    No, it would be helpful, but not required.

Q.     Can I help without sponsoring a municipality?

A.     Of course!  We could use all the help you can give.  If you know of genealogical resources, both online and off regarding Zacatecas, Mexico; we would be very appreciative of that information.  If you have any graphic design abilities, we could use some help with that as well.  Contact us and let’s start the conversation on how you can help the Zacatecas GenWeb Project!

If there are any questions that are not answered here, please contact us and we will work with you to find the answers.
