(If
you have further genealogy information on this family line please submit it to sgenweb@gmail.com )
1 Wijeyegunawardena Ge
(Perera)
[Is
this Perera family descendants of Portuguese and Sinhalese, or Sinhalese that
converted to Christianity and were given the name Perera?)
(Is
it the Palihawadana Family? Which brother? Or is it another Wijegunewardene family) from Kelaniya area??
Father Factor of
the British? East India Company (Family anecdote re. being a Factor: If a
ship they took responsibility for sunk before reaching its destination with
cargo….this family had to bare the cost by selling some land. If a ship reached
its destination they bought land.). Commodities this family dealt with: spices, salt, cinnamon, coconut, rubber,
rice, …..etc.
4 Perera Wijegunawardene (b.1850’s?)
Either he was, or his Father was
Factor of the British (Dutch?) East
India Company [Worked with Dutch Previous to this]. Business where bullock carts go and exchange
salt for spices. Then spices go on ships to Europe etc. Business in Pettah and lived in Pettah…..then
Horton Place, Cinnamon Gardens, colombo 7.
+ Georgiana? Georgina? Silva (daughter of a coffee merchant aka “Coffee
King”. Is she the daughter of Nanayakkarage Don
Paulis Silva (1838-1901) that is mentioned in Twentieth Cent. Impr. P.591??
...not sure at all. Research under way to see if it
is). Supposed to be a daughter of
a prominent waluwe family. Georgina’s
father is supposed to have owned the Galle face Green but sold it to asn
European gentleman as it was considered bad luck to own bare land by the sea.
[One of the
family Cemetaries is Borella Kanatte Cemetary].
