1  WILLIAM  ALEXANDER  LYFORD, Deceased by Jul 1906. There is no record of his death in Australia or England or Scotland. Currently I am assuming that he died in Ceylon. He was a planter and resident in Galle at the time of his son's birth i.e. Clarence Ernest Millie Lyford about 1879/82. The Ceylon Almanac 1858 lists J.Lyford as a resident of Pusselawa, which was the a coffee growing district. Fergusons's Ceylon directory of 1871/72 lists W.A. Lyford as a planter on Poondhooloya North, then a coffee estate owned by Captain Reddie and P.D. Millie. Ferguson's Ceylon Directory of 1898/99 has W.A. Lyford as a tea planter on Pallegoda Estate Bentota. This estate was later totally replanted in rubber. Ferguson in 1953 has a J.H.Lyford as an Assistant in Bosanquet & Skrine, an Estate Produce company.
