of the District Court of Colombo, No.5. This is the first instance of the appointment of a native gentleman to a superior Judicial office,
and all who have the pleasure of Mr De Saram’s acquaintance will acknowledge that the character of this highly respected public servant
is such as to do honor to the important situation to which he has been nominated, under the new arrangements by which the way to the highest
civil offices has been opened equally to His Majesty’s subjects, whether European or Native….

Wed 16 Jul: It is with the most sincere regret that we are this day called on to notice the death of the recently appointed Judge of the
District Court of Colombo, No 5, the 2nd Maha-modliar A De Saram, esq, which melancholy event took place on Saturday last in the forenoon.
His interment in the Dutch Church at Wolvendahl, on Sunday last, was attended by a numerous concourse of his relatives & friends & by
several Gentlemen of the Civil & Military services & Burghers……

Kurnegalle Cutcherry, (2nd son of Simon Silva Mohanderam). He was born in 1805 and appointed in 1823 Interpreter to the Negombo Magistracy.
In 1825 he was appointed Interpreter to the Padenia Agency and in 1830 to the office he last held. [Eulogy follows.] He has left a wife and
